Construction Impacts

This page highlights construction and infrastructure projects that will impact shuttle routes, roads, gates, and parking at the Lab’s hill site in the current month. Since construction is a dynamic process and timeline changes are common, the details below may change.

Shuttle Impacts 

Always check Tripshot (lbnl.tripshot.com) for real-time current shuttle impacts.

March 25 through May 8: Impacts along Chu, Smoot, and Seaborg Roads due to construction activities  

When: Intermittently between March 25 and May 8  

Impacts: 


Safety: Pay attention when walking or driving in the area, and give the drivers plenty of room and notice.

Why: The Seismic Safety & Modernization project must remove large quantities of soil from the construction site and bring in concrete to pour foundations.

May 8-22: Bertozzi Road closed 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (evenings only)

When: Wednesday, May 8, through Wednesday, May 22

Impacts: 

Why: This is a step in the Centennial Bridge construction project. The UCB contractor will be removing parts of the old bridge.

May 27-30: Strawberry Gate closed to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic from May 27, 6:00 p.m. to May 30, 6:00 a.m.

When: Monday, May 27, 6:00 p.m. to Thursday, May 30, 6:00 a.m.

Impacts: 

Why: This is a step in the Centennial Bridge construction project. Centennial Drive will be closed during the Memorial Day holiday weekend to allow the contractor to complete the tie-in of the new roadway to the existing Centennial Drive.

June 26: Parking impacts along Seaborg Road due to crane removal 

When: June 26, 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Impacts: 

Why: Movement of a crane supporting the Seismic Safety & Modernization project.
