Confab23 Focus:
The Integrated Research Infrastructure Initiative

The future of modern collaborative science in the era of exascale data and artificial intelligence will require the near-instantaneous linking of far-flung researchers, instruments, and information. Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) is excited to announce that Confab23 will focus on the DOE’s Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) initiative, showcasing early prototypes of accelerated workflows, discussing the roadmap for IRI’s implementation, and presenting how ESnet’s advanced networking capabilities support the integrated future of national science.

Join the conversation with fellow scientists, DOE staff, ESnet and other colleagues on IRI and how it will shape our investments, create new capabilities, and enable exciting possibilities for science!

The 2023 CONFAB took place in Gaithersburg, MD, at the Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center from October 16-18 and was followed by an ESCC meeting Oct. 19-20.

Why attend Confab23?

"The Integrated Research Infrastructure and the High Performance Data Facility initiatives point to a future in which data, compute, and networking capabilities become increasingly interwoven to provide a seamless infrastructure for scientific discovery.

Our goal is to convene as a diverse science and user-facility community, together with infrastructure experts, so we can successfully co-design this integrated science future together. That is why I am personally inviting you to attend Confab23, the second iteration of ESnet’s user meeting.

— Inder Monga, ESnet Executive Director

Who should attend Confab23?

Innovative thinkers from the national laboratory, user facility, and scientific networking communities who want to learn more and begin collaboratively building the roadmap for realizing the IRI’s vision: To empower researchers to meld DOE’s world-class research tools, infrastructure, and user facilities seamlessly and securely in novel ways to radically accelerate discovery and innovation.

Last year's Confab in Berkeley was a fun and resounding success, described by one attendee as a "huge step forward for ESnet's support and technology development."
